What's New in InkThink: A Month of Improvements

Home-screen widgets, a new Paper design, a rebuilt ink engine and a month of calendar and task improvements. Here is everything that shipped.

It’s been a busy month at InkThink. We’ve added home-screen widgets, new ways to plan with your pen, a fresh look, and dozens of smaller improvements that make the app feel faster and more natural to use. Here’s everything that’s new.

A Fresh New Look

Home has a new Paper design: a calmer, notebook-inspired look built around your handwriting.

Home-Screen Widgets for Android and iOS

Your day, at a glance, without opening the app. The new Tasks & Events widget puts your handwritten top tasks and upcoming events right on your home screen.

  • Your real handwriting — tasks and calendar entries appear exactly as you wrote them, with their label colours.

  • Choose what you see — show your top tasks, your upcoming events, or both. On Android, you can also filter to a single project label.

  • Side-by-side or stacked — view tasks and dates next to each other, or one above the other. A single-list widget shows bigger rows that are easier to read at a glance.

  • Google and Outlook events — appear alongside your own entries (Pro).

  • One tap to write — the pen button opens InkThink straight into Quick Add, ready for your next idea.

Plan Like You Do on Paper

The calendar now works more like a paper planner.

  • Draw out multi-day events — press and hold on a day, then drag across the days you want, like drawing a bar across a planner page. A gentle buzz confirms you’ve started, and each day you add gets a light tick. Let go and the event is ready to write, with the dates already filled in. This works in Week, Month and Year views.

  • Double-tap to add — double-tap any day in Week or Month view to start a new entry for that day.

  • The new Year view — see all twelve months at once, and write handwritten goals for each month. InkThink remembers your choice, so the Year view is waiting for you next time. Turn mini calendar on/off.

  • Faster navigation — moving between weeks and months is now dramatically quicker.

  • Easier-to-read synced events — in the seven-column week view, Google and Outlook events now show the time and title on separate lines, so you can read the whole thing.

Google Calendar and Outlook (Pro)

Connect your Google Calendar and Outlook accounts and see those events right alongside your handwritten plans. You can connect more than one account per provider. Events show in Day, Week, Month and Home views, colour-coded by source, and tapping one opens it in its original calendar.

Better Ink, Everywhere

We rebuilt the ink engine behind InkThink, so writing feels smoother and more responsive across every device.

  • A smarter eraser — erase whole strokes with a tap, or flip your stylus and use its eraser end.

  • Scratch-out to erase — rebuilt from the ground up to be more accurate, so it removes what you meant to remove and leaves the rest alone.

  • Unlimited undo — undo now steps back through your whole history, not just your last stroke.

  • Pen-only mode — turn it on and your fingers scroll and pan while only your pen draws. No more stray marks from your palm.

Getting Things Done Feels Good

Completing a task now comes with a little celebration: a soft chime, a gentle buzz on phones, and a satisfying tick popping into its box. You can also check off tasks the way you would on paper:

  • Strike through a task — cross it out with your pen to complete it.

  • Swipe right to complete — or swipe left to delete.

We also made the task checkboxes on Home bigger and easier to hit, so you’re less likely to open a task by accident when you meant to tick it off.

A Friendlier First Run

New to InkThink? The welcome tour has been redesigned. Swipe through a quick introduction, then write your very first task with your pen. You’ll land on Home with it already on your list.

Keep InkThink on Top (Windows)

A new pin button in the title bar keeps InkThink above your other windows. It’s perfect for keeping your tasks visible while you work in other apps.

Fixes and Polish

  • More reliable sync — including fixes for items that could reappear or fail to update across devices.

  • Fixed a first-launch issue — on some Android devices where the initial sync didn’t complete.

  • Fixed calendar items showing on the wrong day.

  • Tapping a date in Month view is now instant.

  • Stability improvements across Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad.

Thank you for all your feedback. Many of these changes came straight from your suggestions. Keep them coming!
